2017 Events


Thanks to everyone that came to this years Family Fun Day - it was a great success. Special thanks to Selby College and the Market Cross for sponsoring the Land Train. Here's to next year's event - 17 June 2018.


Food & Drink Festival 2017

We had a brilliant day and it was a great success, thanks to our sponsors, Selby Arts Festival (providing funding for the entertainment) Omega Security Services, Wetherells Store http://www.wetherellsofselby.com/  NFU Mutual, Saint Gobain, Little Miss Muffin, Ponden Homes http://www.pondenhome.co.uk/  Amey, Crombie Wilkinson, STEP, North Yorkshire County Council and for everyone coming along to have a great day.

The date of next year's event is Saturday 28 July 2018.


Beer Festival 2017

Another great event this year, the Town Hall was full of people enjoying the beer provided by Brown Cow Brewery and Cider from the Little Badger Co Ltd.

We had people dancing to Harkins Bike Band and The Alligators and people enjoying Caribbean Food from Devons Kitchen.

Massive thanks to all our sponsors especially Mayfair Security and Omega Security Services Ltd plus all the beer barrel sponsors, without their support the event would not go ahead.

The date of next year's event is 4 August 2018-ticket only event. See you all once again next year.


Bonfire & Firework Display - Saturday 4 November 2017

It will soon be time for this year's bonfire and firework event at Scott Road Community Centre. Gates open at 6.00pm. There will be rides and attractions, food available too and Minster FM to help with the countdown. The Mayor, Cllr Melanie Davis, will light the bonfire at 6.30pm. 

There will be two sets of fireworks set off, first set at 7.00pm.

The event is free for all to come along and enjoy the fabulous fireworks.


Remembrance Service at the Cemetery - Friday 10 November 2017

The Remembrance Service at the Cemetery is attended by local school children, veterans and everyone that would wish to come along is very welcome. The service takes place at the War Graves in the Cemetery at 10.50am.  

School Children, with the help of the Veterans, lay poppies on graves of people who have died in a War, this is a very moving service and poppy laying is part of the event to commemorate those that have lost their lives at war.


Remembrance Service at the Abbey - Sunday 12 November 2017

The Mayor invites all local residents, visitors and dignatories to Selby Abbey for the Remembrance Service which commences at 10am.  There is a parade of local groups, including the British Legion, TA Cadets, Scouts and Guides band. SMI Mick Topping leads the parade from the Community Centre on Scott Road from 9.30am along Gowthorpe to the Abbey.  After the service the Mayor and others lay wreaths at Selby Park followed by the parade returning along Gowthorpe to the Community Centre.

Everyone is welcome to attend this service.


Christmas Market and Lights Switch On - Saturday 2 December 2017

The Market will open at 9am on the Market Place, in front of Selby Abbey.  There are lots of stalls to choose from including crafts and gifts as well as refreshments.  On stage we have local school choirs, bands and lots more to entertain people.

The Mayor will switch on the lights at 4pm on the Market Place.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy this fabulous event.
