The remit of the Group (SADRUG) is to defend and improve passenger and freight services, not only in the Selby District, but also those in other localities where it is likely they would be used by those travelling to and from the District. With regard to freight the Group supports any attempts to further increase the use of the Potter Group Rail Distribution Centre.
To achieve its objectives firm links are established with Network Rail, Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Passenger Focus and the Department For Transport. Meetings take place with all those bodies.
SADRUG responds to all Consultation Documents and recently to the Network Rail East Coast Main Line 2016 Rail Utilisation Strategy Document and Northern RUS Document. A very detailed response has also been made to the DtF Reforming Rail Franchising Document.
Current issues being pursued include access for the disabled to Platform 2 and 3 at Selby Station, the provision of car parking behind those platforms, the services between York and Hull from May 2011, and matters involving the staions at South Milford, Sherburn in Elmet and Church Fenton.
A quarterly Newsletter, Rail Network News, is published.
The Group is affiliated to Railfuture (Yorkshire Branch) and Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership (YCCRP).
Meetings are held on the second Thursday each month (except August) at the Community Centre, Scott Road, Selby, North Yorkshire at 7.30 pm.
£5.00 per annum for individuals and £10.00 for public bodies.
