The upstairs of the Town Hall is the main office of Selby Town Council and is open to the public Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. The Town Hall is available to hire for meetings, conferences, parties and as we are a licensed wedding venue you can even get married here!
The Town Hall is also a vibrant venue showcasing music and comedy acts from around the world.
The Town Council purchased the 1811 Building on New Lane in 2019. During the early days of the pandemic, it became clear that Selby & District Foodbank had outgrown their premises and approached us to see if we had or knew of anywhere they could operate from. Council happily agreed to lease the ground floor of the 1811 Building to the Foodbank and they moved in early 2021. There are some Town Council officers based upstairs in the building too.
Selby Community Centre is managed by the Town Council on behalf of Selby Community Trust. The Centre is home to Selby Community Playgroup Monday to Friday during term time and also several other regular groups and charities. Rooms are available to hire including a self-contained attic room accessed by its own staircase and soon to have a lift installed.
Selby Community Woodland is managed by the Town Council. The woodland also has open areas to play and explore, including a bug hotel! We are also developing an area to install a refurbished Mining Wheel as a dedicated monument to the Selby Coalfield – it is hoped this will be completed early 2023.
