1. Visit one (or more) of the many Play areas and parks

Selby Community Land, on Scott Road, boasts not one but three play areas, an enclosed area for young children, a super sized space net for the more adventurous older children and a wooden trail area.

There are also 2 large fields to play ball games, picnic (inclusive picnic tables) and a community wildlife pond to view the ducks and pond life.

2. Bondgate Community Woodland

The Community Woodland on Bondgate, Selby was officially opened in 2012.  The woodland is managed by Selby Town Council on behalf of Selby Community Trust. The Big Lottery Fund – Groundwork Community Spaces gave funding for trees in the woodland. It is a fabulous facility with lots of different trees and walks, sculptures are dotted around the area along with benches for you to sit, relax and enjoy nature.

There is a separate enclosed dog walking area, with dog bins provided on site.

There is a small car park, but the woodland is short walk from Selby Town Centre. Come along and spend a lovely hour or two walking through the trail, exploring the bug hotel or enjoying a picnic.

5. Visit the Apiary at Selby Cemetery

Selby & District Beekeepers Association were looking for a suitable area to build an Apiary where they could have a safe observation area for groups to learn about honey bees. The Town Council agreed to an area in the Cemetery that wasn’t suitable for future burial ground. We are very excited by the area that the beekeepers have developed which along with the apiary includes a bug hotel. The Town Council have a wildflower planting scheme in place for the cemetery to encourage wildlife including bees. The apiary is open during cemetery open hours for unaccompanied visits and the beekeepers have provided lots of fantastic information, an observation hive, a drawing corner and a visitors book for you to leave comments.

You may drop lucky and be able to purchase some of the honey from the hives.
