The Town Council are erecting a memorial to the Selby Coalfield. This memorial, featuring half an original mine wheel, is being sited at Selby Community Woodland at Bondgate. The materials have changed, but the overall design remains the same. Below is an artists impression of how the finished memorial will look.
We have been taking photos throughout the construction of the memorial.
Once the building works have been completed, and the original pit wheel installed on the plinth, memorial benches will be sited to provide a place for reflection and remembering.
An information board will show the layout of the Selby Coalfield.
