The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 was the largest seaborne invasion in history. Along with the associated airborne operations, it marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe.

We lit the Lamp Light of Peace at 9.15pm on 6 June to pay our respect and gratitude to all who sacrificed their lives, and the many that fought so bravely and returned home.

The Lamp represents the “light of peace” that emerged from the darkness of War.

This photo shows the lit Lamp Light of Peace on the steps of the Town Hall. The lamp is bright red.
This is a photo of the Town Hall on D Day 2024. It shows the Lamp Light of Peace on the steps of the Town Hall and also the D Day flag flying from the Town Hall above the front doors.
